Meet the Faces Behind Gumpert Homestead

Welcome to our homestead! We're passionate about sustainable living and sharing our journey with you.

How We Ended Up in Alabama

After years of traveling full-time in an RV and living a life fueled by adventure, freedom, and open roads, our family felt called to slow down and put down permanent roots. That journey led us to Alexander City, Alabama, where Gumpert Homestead officially began.

One of the biggest reasons we chose Alabama was to be closer to Elizabeth’s mom, allowing us to stay connected to family while building something meaningful for the next generation. What started as a simple relocation quickly turned into a full-scale restoration project and a brand-new homestead dream.

We purchased an early 1940s farmhouse that needed major love and care. From foundation repairs and structural updates to restoring original charm and farmhouse character, we completely renovated the home from top to bottom. Every board, wall, and detail was thoughtfully rebuilt with sustainability, comfort, and homestead living in mind.

Today, that once-aging house now serves as the heart of Gumpert Homestead — a thriving Alabama farmstead dedicated to raising healthy poultry and livestock, creating farm-inspired goods, offering educational resources, and building a welcoming rural community.

Moving from RV living to permanent homestead life allowed us to blend our love for travel, self-sufficiency, and simple Southern living. Alabama gave us the land, space, and supportive farming community we needed to grow — not just crops and animals, but a family-centered business rooted in faith, hard work, and sustainability.

Our story is proof that sometimes the best journeys don’t come from traveling farther — but from finally coming home.

Why We Homestead

At Gumpert Homestead, we don’t just farm — we homestead with purpose. Our decision to homestead comes from a deep desire to reconnect with traditional skills while using modern tools to build a more sustainable future for our family.

We believe in learning the “old ways” — gardening, animal husbandry, food preservation, self-sufficiency, craftsmanship, and land stewardship — while combining them with today’s technology, research, and eco-friendly practices. This balance allows us to honor the past while preparing for the future.

One of our biggest motivations is raising our twin boys with strong values rooted in hard work, responsibility, and real-life skills. On our homestead, learning doesn’t come from a screen — it comes from feeding animals before school, collecting eggs at sunrise, planting gardens by hand, and understanding where food truly comes from.

Homesteading teaches patience, problem-solving, resilience, and respect for nature. These lessons shape not only better farmers — but stronger, more grounded individuals.

By building Gumpert Homestead, we are creating more than a farm. We are building a lifestyle centered on family, education, sustainability, and community. Every project we take on — from restoring buildings to raising livestock — is done with the goal of passing these skills down to our children and sharing them with others who want to live more intentionally.

For us, homesteading isn’t a trend — it’s a legacy in the making.
